Readit Wand
The Readit Wand takes printed material and reads it out loud and also converts it into several easy-to-see and easy-to-use magnified visual modes. It does this in conjunction with your PC or laptop computer. The Readit Wand is both hardware and software. The hardware consists of a camera on a pedestal. The pedistal is weighted on the bottom so it doesn't tip over. The camera at the top folds out so the the unit sits on your desk like an up-side-down L. But when not in use you can fold it back up and at only 16.4" long and 1.1 pound, it fits nicely into a 15" computer case.

The software is easy to install and you do that once from the CD before using the Readit Wand. It includes several English speaking voices and the Readit software for your computer.
In it's most simple mode, you just plug in the Readit Wand camera into a USB port, launch the Readit program, put printed material under the camera, press enter on your computer keyboard, and almost instantly the document is read aloud and magnified onto your computer screen.

We've found Readit Wand to be powerful, useful, and easy-to-use. Here is a just a sampling of its features and uses...
- Just press enter to capture a document - that means snap a picture. Once the image is captured you can magnify it, see it in full color or high-contrast color modes, and have it read out loud. You can use your arrow keys or mouse pointer to have it read over again or to begin reading anywhere in the document you desire. This would be great for magazine or newspaper articles.
- Press Shift+Enter to go into multi capture mode. Now very time you put a new document or page under the camera, it looks and listens for the document to be still, then captures another page automatically. You can keep doing this for many pages or even a whole book. When complete, you can save the whole document or book for later reading.
- There are 6 "Enhanced Visualization" modes. One is especially convenient for the low vision computer user. It takes all the printed material and converts it to a single column that fits the width of the computer screen. And then no matter how large or small you make the magnification, it keeps the text to one column the width of the screen.
- You can mark up your document with bookmarks. Just press Ctrl+B to create and name a bookmark. Then later you can view your list bookmarks by pressing Ctrl+B and jumping to the one you want.
- You can use the Readit Wand in live mode. What you put under the camera is projected onto your computer screen like a regular CCTV. This mode is nice if you need to see where to sign a document.
